MMH in Asia Program Features

Cornell Education

The MMH in Asia program makes no compromise in terms of a genuine Cornell education and exceptional teaching quality. In addition to spending about six months on campus at Cornell, faculty members from Cornell’s SHA teach about half of the required courses in Singapore in Summer and the following Spring. Innovative teaching methodologies such as e-Cornell and video-based courses, taught by Cornell professors, greatly enhance flexibility of our course offerings while maintaining Cornell’s high quality of teaching. While on campus at Cornell, students from the Asia class are fully integrated with their counterparts from the Ithaca class to form a complete cohort of MMH students.

Asia Immersion Program

The MMH in Asia program strongly believes that students should learn business where the business is. Our Asia Immersion Program has several key components.  First, courses are consistently taught with Asian business cases and examples recently produced by Cornell’s faculty and top business schools. Second, practical and career-oriented Roundtables, run in four full days by concentrations, cultivate instant and extensive networks between Asian industry leaders and students. Third, corporate visits and Dean’s Distinguished Lectures (DDL) are great experiential learning opportunities to connect students with pioneers of industry in a wide range of Asian contexts. Recent corporate visit and DDL speakers are from Four Seasons, Raffles Hotels, LVMH, Expedia, IHG, The Fullerton Heritage, Sofitel, etc.

Business Communication and Cultural Training

Starting from orientation and throughout the program, students participate in Asian business communication and cultural sensitivity workshops to better prepare them for careers in Asia. Electives in Asian Culture and Management Practices, Mandarin language classes are available for students who are serious about furthering their careers in the region.

Buddies System
Several months before joining the MMH in Asia program, incoming students are systematically and individually connected to graduating students and alumni based on matching of professional and cultural backgrounds and career aspirations. Further introductions are made through the Cornell Hotel Society (CHS) to connect our students to senior Cornell SHA alumni throughout the region for academic and career guidance.  High-level connections matter in Asia.

The career advice and networking opportunities are the most value-added feature of the MMH in Asia program. Such opportunities with industry elites inspire students with rich discussions on contemporary challenges and facilitate advanced knowledge relevant to business in Asia.”
